I'm looking for information on my great grandfather, Gerasimos "Jerry" Zacharatos (spelling could be off) who was born around 1888 and is from the island of Kefallinia/Kefalonia (unsure of correct spelling), or any family members. He arrived in the US in 1906 on the Neustria ship to visit a cousin by the name of Vasilios Kokolis (spelling could be off) in NY. We've been told he went back to Greece to fight in the Balkan wars around 1913. His family in Greece owned an olive farm. He is either from the town of Kokolata (spelling could be off) or Defaronato (spelling could be off).

Hello Bradford,
I am a half Greek half Spanish boy living in Spain. My grandfather and father are from Kefalonia. Their surname is Vayenatos. The -atos ending for surnames is typically Cephalonian.
The thing is that my uncle is called Makis Zaharatos!!! He is a taxi driver from Argostoli. My grandfather and his grandfather are cousins if i am now wrong.
What's even more, my grandfather left for the USA in the beginning of the XX century, to come back to fight in the First and Second Balkan Wars!! Curious huh?
Ok if you want to know anything else just drop me a line at andreas@andreasmarkessinis.com and we may share our knowledge as i am quite interested in researching my Cephalonian roots.
